dating a family friendDating with a person who is attached to your family can be complicated and delicate although you seem to know each other well. When you are romantically involved with a family friend, everything changes. Your relationship becomes different and the way you treat each other becomes different as well. The passion is born and this could create a happier environment for both of you. However, it is a bit risky. It could break the good connection you have been enjoying (since you were kids) if your dating doesn’t work. On the other hand, you are lucky if it will turn out well.

Dating Tips

If you can’t help but fall for a family friend, take time to read some dating guidelines.

  • Talk to your parents, siblings, or cousins about your plan to go out or to pursue your relationship to a romantic level. Be honest to them. Listen to what they have to say about it. You need a good dating advice at this point.
  • Be honest and clear with your intentions in dating the person. It’s not time to fool around. Your intentions should be good so that they will approve them. They will support you and it’s going to be a big help on your part. They won’t let you ruin the bond and friendship that they have with the family of the person you plan to date with.
  • The family of the person deserves to know your plans and intentions toward their child. Show them that you have good intentions and that you have no hidden agenda. They won’t let you take the person for granted so watch out.
  • Once your romantic relationship starts, learn to manage it by yourself. Don’t be dependent on your family. They should not go in between you. Be the captain of your relationship.
  • Respect the person to avoid hurting him/her. Be careful with the person’s heart.
  • If problems arise, talk about them. Try to handle them in a way that you will not bother your families.

Your friendship is not a guarantee that your intimate relationship will end up well. If it fails and you break up, try to end it harmoniously so that you could at least smile at each other again when you meet.
